CHRONOLOGY
1946 Born Taiping, Perak, Malaysia.
1950-54 Lived in Teroi, a small mixed farming village near Yan, Kedah, Malaysia.
1955-64 Lived and studied in Penang, Malaysia at Han Chiang Primary School and Chung Ling High School.
Studied under Penang artists: Lee Cheng Yong, Chuah Thean Teng and Chia Hui Kiam. His early paintings were signed ‘Hiang’.
1965-67 Primary teacher, Sekolah Chung Hwa, Kebun 500, Kedah, Malaysia.
1968-69 Gaya College, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. Majored in Art and Mathematics.
1970-72 Art teacher, Sekolah Menengah Sandakan, Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia.
1976 BA Fine Art, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
1977-91 Teaching and practicing art in Melbourne, Australia.
1982 Scholarship to New York Studio School, New York, U.S.A.
Researched in Europe, England and U.S.A.
1984 International Teaching Fellowship to lecture at Nanjing Normal University,
Nanjing, Jiangsu, China.
1985 Seconded as Director of Education Programme,
Museum of Chinese Australian History, Melbourne, Australia.
1985-90 Appointed Executive Committee Member, Australian Asian Association, Australia.
1990 Revisited Europe and New York.
1992-2003 Full-time artist based in Melbourne, Australia.
1994 Lived in Kuala Lumpur.
1995 Appointed Contributing Editor, World Chinese Arts Gazette.
1996 Founding President, Asia Pacific Art Organization.
1999 Travelled to New Delhi, Jaipur, Agra , India.
2000 Travelled to Istanbul, Cappadocia, Turkey.
2000 Found and met up with lost relatives in Teochew (Chaozhao), China.
2003 onwards Full-time artist based in Penang, Malaysia. Travelled frequently to China, Thailand,
Vietnam, Mynmar, Cambodia and Indonesia.
